Well, it seems that the upcoming Role-Playing game for the DS, Sonic RPG, has a name, a list of characters, and a main bad guy, who is (once again) not Eggman.
The new title of the game is "Sonic Chronicles; the Dark Brotherhood", supposedly the game will be badass.
A new character named Shade (female) comes in. However, at this time it is still unknown who or what Shade is, nor is it known which side she is on, or if she will be a neutral character.
This will be like "M&L, Partners in Time" and other RPGs, you have a team (you can make your own), and have your own team attack combos.
11 characters will join the fray, 7 are confirmed; (yours truly) Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow the Hedgehog, Amy Rose, Rouge the Bat, and for the first time in 5 years, Big the Cat (WTF?!).

According to BioWare, Eggman will not be the main villain, but he will be a "more credible bad guy again". The game will also have fully animated cutscenes. The game will have two acts, one set in a standard Sonic area, while the other one will take place in a "darker world". There will also be sidequests in the game. Just like other RPs, level-ups mean upgrading attributes.
The first expected preview will be in the Febuary 2008 Nintendo Power magazine.
